WhatsApp set to add music to statuses, borrowing a feature from Instagram

WhatsApp is introducing a new feature that will let users add music to their status updates, similar to Instagram’s functionality. Currently being tested with beta users on both Android and iOS, this feature promises to enhance the status-sharing experience for users who love posting updates.

When posting a status, users will find a music button in the drawing editor, allowing them to browse a large music library and select their favorite tracks. You can pick a specific part of the song to add, with photo status updates allowing for a 15-second music clip. For videos, the music will play throughout the clip’s duration.

Once the music is added, viewers of the status will see the song’s name and can click to visit the artist’s Instagram profile, offering a seamless way to discover new music and artists.

This feature is already accessible to some beta testers and will be rolled out to a broader audience soon.
