Three forest guards sustained serious injuries while evading an elephant attack during a patrol near Gundimala in Hanur taluk, Chamarajanagar. The incident occurred on Thursday night near PG Palya.
The injured guards, identified as Muniyappa, Jadeswamy, and Nagaraj, received initial treatment at Kollegala Hospital and were later transferred to Chamarajanagar Sims Hospital for further medical care.
The patrol was part of routine surveillance in the PG Palya zone of Malemahadeshwar Wildlife Sanctuary, crucial for elephant movement towards the Biligiri Ranganatha Tiger Reserve. The guards were monitoring the area to prevent potential forest disturbances.
During their patrol, the guards encountered elephants unexpectedly on the road and attempted to escape, inadvertently falling into a nearby ditch, resulting in their injuries.
Forest Officer Sivaram confirmed that the injuries sustained by the guards are not life-threatening.
