A tragic incident occurred on Monday night in Mangala village, located within the Kundukere range of Bandipur Tiger Reserve in Chamarajanagar district, where a three-year-old tusker was electrocuted. The young elephant, which had strayed into the village in search of food, came into contact with an electric fence surrounding a piece of land.
The land, owned by Sharief Khan, had been leased to another individual. The incident has led to the filing of cases against both the landowner and the lessee, as confirmed by S Prabhakaran, Deputy Conservator of Forests (DCF) at Bandipur Tiger Reserve.
This tragic event highlights the dangers posed by improper use of electric fences in areas near wildlife habitats. Efforts are being made to prevent such incidents and protect both wildlife and local communities.
