Chikkaballapur Youth Sets Himself Ablaze, Critical

Chikkaballapur : A 24-year-old auto driver attempted to take his own life by setting himself on fire near Sowmya Eye Hospital on Monday. Identified as Girish from Chokkahalli, he doused himself in petrol before igniting the flames.

A CCTV camera captured the shocking incident, showing Girish standing behind a deserted building before lighting himself on fire. Moments later, he ran toward the main road, screaming in agony and pleading for help.

Alert locals immediately rushed to his rescue, pouring water over him to douse the flames. They quickly transported him to a nearby hospital in an autorickshaw. Due to the severity of his burns, he was later shifted to Victoria Hospital in Bengaluru, where he is receiving treatment.

Friends speculate that Girish’s drastic step may have been triggered by emotional distress, possibly linked to a failed relationship or financial troubles due to online gambling. Authorities are investigating the exact cause behind the incident.
