A tragic accident occurred on Wednesday at Chadalapura Gate in Chikkaballapur when a tipper truck from a nearby stone crushing unit ran over a moped rider, killing him instantly. The victim was identified as Kuppalli Krishnappa.
In the aftermath of the accident, angry locals staged a protest by blocking National Highway-44, causing a traffic jam that stretched for about 2 kilometers. The protestors voiced their frustration over the frequent accidents in the area, which they attributed to ongoing construction work on a bridge along the highway.
The Nandi Giridhama and Chikkaballapur police faced challenges in persuading the protestors to lift the blockade. After much negotiation, the traffic was allowed to flow again. Meanwhile, the police have seized the tipper (KA 43 A 3019) involved in the incident and arrested the driver.
This incident has once again raised concerns about the safety of commuters on National Highway-44, particularly in areas undergoing construction.
