Bengaluru: A newborn baby boy is undergoing treatment at a hospital in Chikkaballapur after his mother allegedly went missing shortly after giving birth at a private hospital in Devanahalli, prompting police to investigate whether the infant was abandoned.

According to the Devanahalli police, the woman delivered the baby on July 25 at a private hospital. As the infant was born with low birth weight and respiratory complications, doctors recommended shifting him to a specialised neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) in Chikkaballapur for advanced medical care.

Mother fails to return

Before the baby’s transfer, the mother reportedly informed hospital staff that she was stepping out to arrange money for the child’s treatment. However, she never returned to the hospital.

With no sign of the woman, the newborn was shifted by ambulance on July 26 to a hospital in Chikkaballapur under the care of a nurse, where he continues to receive treatment.

Police begin investigation

Following the woman’s disappearance, the Devanahalli police launched an investigation to trace her and determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Officials are examining whether the child was intentionally abandoned or if there are other reasons behind the mother’s disappearance. Police are also gathering information about the woman and verifying available records as part of the probe.

Authorities have not disclosed the identity of the mother, and further details are expected to emerge as the investigation progresses.

The newborn remains under medical supervision, while police continue efforts to locate the missing woman and ensure the child’s welfare.
