CHIKKABALLAPUR: Tamil Nadu’s Vellore police on Thursday arrested a woman named Ammu and rescued a three-day-old male infant she had stolen from a government hospital. Ammu, married for eight years and childless, took the baby on July 28 and fled to Chikkaballapur, where she was staying with a relative in CMC Layout.
The Vellore police, along with a car driver accomplice, managed to track down and apprehend Ammu, successfully rescuing the infant. The child was immediately taken to a women and child hospital for a medical examination.
Dr. Rachan Shetty, who briefed the media, confirmed that the baby had developed mild jaundice. “The child was brought to the hospital around 9:30 am today by the Vellore police. The baby, delivered in Vellore on July 28, was brought here the next day,” Dr. Shetty said. He assured that the infant was otherwise healthy, with a normal heart rate and breathing. However, blood samples were taken to confirm the jaundice diagnosis.
“Based on the results, we will hand over the child to the police,” Dr. Shetty added. The prompt action by the Vellore police and the medical team’s swift response ensured the infant’s safety and health.
