Chikkamagaluru police have registered a case against two Hindu activists, Shyam and Sagar, for allegedly intimidating a local businessman, Mahesh, over his support for an inter-religion marriage. The duo was booked under BNS Sections 353(1)(C) and 353(2).
Mahesh, who runs an eatery in the city, helped his Muslim employee marry a Hindu woman by assisting with their marriage registration and serving as a witness. Following this, he faced backlash from Hindu organisations, with activists allegedly launching an online campaign branding him as disloyal to the Hindu community.
A senior police officer confirmed the case, while Superintendent of Police Vikram Amate was unavailable for comment.
