A 36-year-old woman allegedly died by suicide at her residence in Birur of Kadur taluk in Chikkamagaluru district, police said on Wednesday.

The deceased was identified as Padma, wife of Police Sub Inspector Thippesh.

Incident came to light early morning

According to police, the incident came to light around 3.30 am when Padma was found hanging from a ceiling fan inside the house.

She was reportedly a homemaker.

Couple facing marital issues

Investigators said the couple had been facing difficulties in their relationship for some time and were frequently quarrelling.

Police suspect Padma was deeply distressed over the ongoing marital dispute.

No suicide note has been recovered so far.

Two young children left behind

The couple had been married for 12 years and have two children aged six and two.

The incident has left the family and local community in shock.

Investigation continues

Police have registered a case and further investigation is under way to ascertain all circumstances surrounding the death.
