Chitradurga: In a thrilling incident, police in Nayakanahatti, Chitradurga, chased down a group of thieves in a high-speed pursuit, firing three rounds in the air to apprehend them. The drama unfolded late Saturday night in Kudapur village.

Seven suspects in a Bolero goods vehicle were spotted driving suspiciously at 2:20 am. Constable Srinidhi and a Home Guards officer on patrol stopped the vehicle for inspection. However, the thieves sped away, prompting the officers to alert PSI K. Sivakumar, who gave chase in a police jeep.

The thieves led the police on a wild goose chase, turning onto Manumailanahatti and then Kudapur roads. When PSI Shivakumar ordered them to surrender, they retaliated by pelting stones at the police. In response, Shivakumar fired three rounds in the air from his revolver, causing the thieves to flee towards Andhra Pradesh.

The police vehicle’s glass was shattered in the attack. SP Dharmendra Kumar Meena visited the scene on Sunday and vowed to take swift action. “We are taking this incident seriously and believe the thieves are from Andhra Pradesh, given their Telugu dialect. We will apprehend them soon,” the SP assured.
