Dubai: In a heartfelt tribute to selfless service and cultural legacy, Mangalore Konkans, Dubai, has conferred its first-ever Saadhan Puraskar on Mr Alwyn Pinto Derebail—a revered figure in the world of Konkani art, literature, theatre, and community service.

The award aims to recognise unsung heroes who have silently and steadfastly enriched Konkani culture, especially in the UAE. Mr Pinto, a multifaceted talent and tireless cultural promoter, emerged as the unanimous choice for the prestigious honour.

A lifetime of service and creativity

Born on January 20, 1956, in Derebail, Mangaluru, Alwyn Pinto is a B.Com graduate from St Aloysius College and holds a Diploma in Business Management. He served as an Accounts Manager in multinational firms in Dubai for over 35 years before becoming self-employed. But it is his passion for the arts that has left a lasting legacy.

A veteran actor, Mr Pinto has performed in numerous Konkani, Tulu, and Kannada plays, both in Mangaluru and the UAE. He has also acted in films, written columns and poetry for leading Konkani publications, and contributed significantly as an organiser—helping screen Konkani and Tulu films in the UAE and promoting regional cinema.

A leader beyond the stage

Beyond the arts, Mr Pinto is known as a committed social worker. He has helped raise and distribute funds for the underprivileged and actively supported individuals in crisis. Whether through community outreach, event hosting, or behind-the-scenes coordination, his dedication to people has been a constant.

He is also known for his culinary skills, love for gardening, and effortless charm as a Master of Ceremonies, often seen anchoring community programmes with flair.
