Mangaluru: His Eminence Cardinal Oswald Gracias, Archbishop of Mumbai and a member of the Pope’s Council of Cardinals, paid a pastoral visit to St. Anthony’s Charitable Institutions, Jeppu, on April 30, 2026, offering spiritual support and encouragement to residents and staff.

The visit was marked by moments of compassion, prayer, and interaction, reflecting the Church’s commitment to caring for the poor and marginalised.

Warm welcome and institutional overview

Upon arrival, Cardinal Gracias was received by Director Rev. Fr. John Baptist Crasta and accorded a traditional welcome. He was honoured with a shawl as a mark of respect.

Fr. Crasta presented a brief report on the institution’s history and its current activities, highlighting the wide range of services provided to residents, including care for the elderly, destitute, and those requiring medical attention.

Interaction with residents

During his visit, the Cardinal toured various sections of the institution, including the psychiatric ward, as well as the men’s and women’s wards.

He personally interacted with residents, offering words of comfort and encouragement. His presence brought a sense of hope and reassurance to many, especially those facing physical and emotional challenges.

Apostolic blessings offered

Before concluding his visit to the wards, Cardinal Gracias imparted his apostolic blessings to the residents, invoking peace, strength, and healing.
