Cincinnati, Tanzania: In a powerful humanitarian initiative aimed at combating hunger and restoring hope among vulnerable children, Eyes Open International (EOI) President Harold D’Souza has announced a year-long Free Food Drive in Majevu Village, Same District, Tanzania, beginning June 1, 2026.
The initiative will provide free meals to 200 children daily, focusing not only on nourishment but also on education, dignity, empowerment, and hope.
Mission driven by compassion and resilience
Harold D’Souza, an internationally recognised inspirational speaker, survivor leader, and anti-human trafficking advocate, described the mission as a reflection of humanity in action.
Having personally experienced hunger and hardship in his early life, Harold shared that his painful journey inspired him to dedicate his life towards uplifting vulnerable communities around the world.
He stated that the purpose of life lies not in how much people receive, but in how many lives they uplift with compassion, love, and hope.
Collaboration with Ursuline Franciscan Congregation
The humanitarian initiative is fully funded by Eyes Open International with support from donors in the United States and in collaboration with the Ursuline Franciscan Congregation African Region.
Under the leadership of Sr. Leena Matthias and the Assisi Convent Sisters, the organisation has already been feeding 100 children daily since June 1, 2025.
Beginning June 1, 2026, the programme will expand its outreach and double its impact by serving 200 children every day.
Focus on education and human rights
Harold D’Souza strongly believes that lasting social transformation begins with education, awareness, compassion, and opportunity.
Through Eyes Open International, he continues to educate communities on Human Rights and the United Nations’ 30 Articles of Human Rights, promoting dignity, equality, safety, and hope for every child regardless of background or social status.
“Food nourishes the body, but education and human rights nourish the future,” Harold stated while emphasising the importance of empowering children through knowledge and opportunity.
Supporting vulnerable children
The Majevu Primary School initiative serves children from low-income and poverty-stricken families, many of whom cannot afford even a mid-day meal.
Organisers noted that the programme is expected to improve:
- Child nutrition and health
- School attendance
- Emotional well-being
- Confidence and self-esteem
- Educational opportunities
for vulnerable children in the region.

The mission has received appreciation from supporters across the world.

Mission to build hope and transform generations
