Strategic leadership change aims to streamline pastoral efforts across the diocese
Mangaluru, 17 June 2025: The Diocese of Mangalore has announced the appointment of Fr Naveen Pinto as the new Coordinator for Pastoral Commissions, a move expected to strengthen and harmonise various diocesan-level pastoral initiatives. The appointment, effective from today, signifies a focused shift in the pastoral governance of the diocese.
Fr Naveen Pinto currently serves as the Judicial Vicar at the Bishop’s House (since 2023) and previously held the post of Administrator of St Joseph Seminary, Jeppu from 2022 to 2025. He continues as a visiting faculty at the Seminary while taking on his new responsibilities, residing at Angelore Parish.
Responsibilities and vision
Pastoral commissions within the Mangaluru Diocese encompass key ministries such as catechetics, youth apostolate, social concerns, interreligious dialogue, liturgy, and family life. As Coordinator, Fr Naveen will be responsible for overseeing and streamlining the operations and outreach of these diverse commissions, aligning their work with the spiritual and pastoral vision of the diocese.

Succeeding Fr Faustine Lobo
Fr Naveen takes over the role from Fr Faustine Lucas Lobo, who had been serving as Diocesan Coordinator for Pastoral Commissions since May 29, 2023. Fr Faustine concurrently held the post of Parish Priest of Kinnigoli and was recently appointed as the Director of Father Muller Charitable Institutions (FMCI) in Kankanady — one of the most prominent healthcare and educational networks in the diocese.
A former National Director of the Pontifical Mission Organizations, Fr Faustine brought considerable experience in pastoral planning and mission coordination to the role. During his tenure:
-
He reinforced synodal structures within the diocese.
Fostered collaboration among various pastoral commissions.
Oversaw the publication of the second edition of the Diocesan Pastoral Plan (2024–2026), providing a clear roadmap for future pastoral activities.
His transition to FMCI marks a new chapter in his service, as he takes on leadership of an institution deeply rooted in both healthcare and Christian service.
A strengthened pastoral mission
With Fr Naveen Pinto’s appointment, the Diocese aims to continue building upon the reforms and coordination structures laid by his predecessor. His academic and administrative background, coupled with his judicial responsibilities, positions him well to lead this pivotal pastoral office.
This development is seen as a continuation of the diocese’s mission to nurture community life, deepen faith, and uphold social responsibility through organised pastoral care.
