Mangaluru: The Diocese of Mangalore has announced the appointment of Rev. Fr Rupesh Madtha as the new Priest Public Relations Officer (PRO), effective from June 1, 2026. The appointment has been made by Bishop of Mangalore, Most Rev. Dr. Peter Paul Saldanha, as part of efforts to strengthen and streamline official communication.
Fr Rupesh Madtha will succeed Rev. Dr. J. B. Saldanha, who has completed a distinguished five-year term in the role.
Dual leadership structure continues
As per the administrative structure of the Diocese, the Public Relations Office is led by two representatives—one from the clergy and one from the laity. Fr Rupesh Madtha will serve as the Priest PRO alongside Mr. Roy Castelino, who continues as the Lay PRO.
This dual structure ensures balanced representation and effective communication within and outside the Diocese.
Experienced leader with multiple responsibilities
Fr Rupesh Madtha brings extensive experience and leadership to his new role. He currently holds several key positions within the Diocese and associated organisations, including:
- Manager and Editor of Raknno Weekly, the official diocesan publication serving the Konkani-speaking Catholic community
- Convenor of the Diocesan Ecumenical Commission, promoting unity among Christian denominations
- Convenor of the Diocesan Interreligious Dialogue Commission, fostering harmony among different faiths
- Secretary of the Mangalore Christian Council, coordinating community initiatives
- Treasurer of the All Karnataka United Christian Forum for Human Rights (Western Zone), supporting advocacy for human rights and social justice
Role and responsibilities as PRO
In his new role, Fr Madtha will be responsible for managing media relations, maintaining communication with government authorities, and addressing issues concerning the Diocese.
He will also organise press conferences and issue official statements to ensure accurate dissemination of information and to address public concerns effectively.
