Doha: Karnataka Sangha Qatar (KSQ) celebrated Labour Day 2026 with a grand community event at Pearling Sports Academy, Mansoura, on May 1, bringing together workers, families, and dignitaries in a spirit of unity and appreciation.

Organised under the aegis of the Embassy of India and affiliated with the Indian Cultural Centre (ICC), the programme highlighted the contributions of workers while promoting cultural pride and social responsibility.

Theme of dignity and work culture

The event was centred around the Kannada philosophy “Kaayakave Kailasa” (Work is Worship), emphasising the dignity of labour and the importance of dedication.

This marked the first major programme organised by the newly elected KSQ Management Committee (2026–2028), which received widespread appreciation from the community.

Presence of dignitaries

KSQ President Mr. Subramanya Hebbagelu welcomed the gathering and reiterated the organisation’s commitment to serving as a “home away from home” for workers in Qatar.

The event was graced by dignitaries including Dr. Vaibhav Tandale, Counsellor (Head of Chancery & Consular), Embassy of India, Qatar; Mr. Khalid Abdul Rehman Fakhroo, Qatar Ministry of Labour Relations; ICC President Mr. Manikantan A. P.; ICC Advisory Chairperson Mr. P. N. Baburajan; and Mr. Faisal Al Hudawi.

Speakers appreciated the significant role played by workers in the development of Qatar and acknowledged their dedication and contributions.

Strong community participation

The celebration witnessed participation from senior community leaders and representatives of organisations such as ICC, ICBF, and ISC.

KSQ advisors Mr. Arunkumar, Mr. Veeresh Mannangi, Mr. H. K. Madhu, Mr. Sanjay Kudari, and ICC former President Mrs. Milan Arun were present. Representatives of Karnataka-based associations in Qatar also attended and supported the initiative.

Focus on worker welfare initiatives

The programme included several initiatives aimed at worker welfare and awareness:

  • Health and wellness session by Dr. Kantharaj focusing on hydration and well-being
  • Safety awareness briefing for workers
  • Distribution of water cooler bottles to prepare for the summer season
  • Extension of ICBF insurance benefits to selected workers

These initiatives reflected KSQ’s commitment to supporting the well-being of the community.

Support and acknowledgements

Karnataka Sangha Qatar expressed gratitude to the Embassy of India, Doha, and the Indian Cultural Centre for their continued support.

Special thanks were extended to supporters Mr. Thomas Cherian, Mr. Mustafa, and Mr. Mohammed Saleem for their contributions, along with volunteers and members who played a key role in organising the event.

Celebration concludes with unity and gratitude

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by KSQ General Secretary Mr. Sujith Kumar, followed by a cake-cutting ceremony and community dinner.

The event left a strong message of unity, gratitude, and solidarity, reinforcing KSQ’s role in supporting and celebrating the Indian community in Qatar.
