Sharjah: Konkan Udkana 2025, organised by the United Loretto Friends (ULF), Dubai, concluded on a vibrant and memorable note at the Sharjah Wanderers Sports Club, where thousands gathered to celebrate Konkani culture, unity and community spirit. The annual festival once again reaffirmed its status as one of the most anticipated Konkani cultural gatherings in the UAE, featuring a full day of sports, performances, family activities and musical entertainment.
Grand inaugural ceremony sets the tone for a spirited celebration
The festivities began with blessings, the unveiling of trophies and an inspiring keynote address by Fr Edwin Monis of St Michael’s Church, Sharjah. The oath-taking ceremony, led by Mr Vinod Pinto, ULF Core Team Member, alongside team captains, emphasised values of discipline, fairness and collective enthusiasm.
The programme was enriched by the presence of title sponsors Mr Kushel and Mrs Leena, Managing Partners of KLM Group, whose support elevated the occasion. Esteemed well-wishers Mr James Mendonca and Mr Lancy D’Souza also joined the ceremony. Team captains received special mementoes in recognition of their participation.

A total of 27 dynamic teams participated this year, bringing exceptional energy and sportsmanship to the field.

The evening programme, hosted by the charismatic VJ Dixon—who arrived from India exclusively for the event—kept audiences energised with humour, interaction and signature stage presence.

Baila King & Queen 2025 crowns Merwyn and Diyana
One of the most awaited segments, the Baila King & Queen Competition, concluded with Merwyn and Diyana being crowned winners.

Major announcement: Pepere Pepe Dum – Season 4 set for 2026
A key highlight was the announcement of Pepere Pepe Dum – Season 4, set for November 2026 in Dubai. Organised under the joint patronage of ULF Dubai and Ami Ani Amchim, Mangalore, the next season will feature the first-ever Grand Mangalorean Brass Band Festival in Dubai—an initiative expected to bring global Mangalorean communities together.
