The Department of Psychiatry, Yenepoya Medical College, Yenepoya (Deemed to be University), organized the national level workshop “YENMIND-8” at Yenepoya Nursing Home, Kankanady, Mangalore on June 26th, 2024. The theme for the workshop was “Seeing the Unseen: Radiology Basics for Psychiatrists.”
During the event, Aloysius Deemed to be University signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Department of Psychiatry, Yenepoya (Deemed to be University) to collaborate on providing mental health services to Aloysius students and joint academic activities. Father Dr. Praveen Martis was the chief guest for the function and signed the MOU on behalf of Aloysius Deemed to be University, while Dr. Anil Kakunje, Head of the Department of Psychiatry, signed on behalf of Yenepoya Medical College, Yenepoya (Deemed to be University).
Father Praveen Martis inaugurated the center by releasing two birds symbolizing freedom, signifying the activities of YENCOURAGE, celebrating its 5th anniversary as a Mental Health Rehabilitation center. He emphasized the importance of mental health and highlighted the initiatives undertaken at Aloysius Institute. June 26th also marks the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, underscoring the significance of addressing these issues affecting youth and the young population.
Prof. AV Moideen Kutty, Advisor to Yenepoya (Deemed to be University), presided over the function and commended the academic activities of the department and the center. Dr. Moosabba, Principal of Yenepoya Medical College, Dr. Abhay Nirgude, Dean of Yenepoya Medical College, Dr. Ashwini Dutt, Dean of Yenepoya (Deemed to be University), Dr. Mohammed Thahir, Director of Yenepoya Super Speciality Hospital, Mr. Yenepoya Javed, Dr. Veena Akhil, Manager of Yenepoya Nursing Home, were also present at the occasion. Dr. Anil Kakunje welcomed the gathering, and Dr. Ravichandra Karkal concluded with a vote of thanks.
YENCOURAGE, the Yenepoya Wellness, Counseling, Day Care, and Rehabilitation Centre, was inaugurated exactly five years ago on June 26th, 2019, at Yenepoya Nursing Home building, Kankanady, Mangalore. It is among the first facilities of its kind managed by a medical college department in the DK District, providing daycare services and long-stay facilities for patients with mental illness. The center offers vocational training and engages patients in activities of their interest such as fun activities, music, games, exercise, and computer-assisted training programs, catering to patients of all ages.
The Psychiatry department operates a free 24×7 Psychiatry helpline service at 9108919025 for the past six years. Chief guest Father Martis made a symbolic call to the helpline to mark the occasion.
The workshop featured eminent Radiologists as resource persons, namely Dr. Srinivas Shentar from Delta Scans Bangalore, Dr. Devadas Acharya, Dr. Ravichandra G, and Dr. Vishwanath Reddy from Mangalore.
