Connectivity wins: Mobile tower brings hope to village in Bijapur
In a significant stride towards bridging the communication gap, a new mobile tower has been installed in Putkel village, one of the most insurgency-affected areas of Basaguda in Bijapur district. The installation comes under the joint efforts of the Chhattisgarh government’s ‘Niyad Nella Nahar’ scheme and the Centre’s Universal Service Obligation Fund (USOF) initiative.
This mobile tower is set to transform lives, extending network services not just to Putkel, but also to neighbouring remote villages like Chilkapalli, Pakeela, Pusbakka, and Polampalli, which previously remained disconnected due to poor infrastructure and security threats.
For years, these villages suffered isolation, particularly during monsoons when communication lines would snap, leaving them completely cut off. Moreover, the stronghold of Naxal groups had further worsened the situation. Insurgents often torched mobile towers and discouraged phone usage, fearing locals might act as police informers.
However, with intensified security operations, Maoists have been pushed into smaller pockets, allowing the government to establish security camps deep inside Bijapur’s interiors. This has enabled smoother implementation of welfare schemes, including the latest telecom boost.
Officials highlighted that the mobile tower will be a game-changer for students preparing for competitive exams, as well as improving law enforcement coordination and transportation services in the area.
The move symbolizes a hopeful step towards development, safety, and empowerment for the region’s long-neglected communities.
