Child Trafficking Case Uncovered In Haveri District

Haveri, June 17: Four individuals have been arrested in connection with a child trafficking case in Haveri district, involving the alleged trafficking of a baby girl born to Kusuma. The arrests were made following a complaint filed by the child protection officer of Davangere district, TN Kavitha.

Arrests and Allegations

The accused include Zaitunabi M from Byadagi Islampura Galli, Kusuma from Balehosur in Saudagara, and Manjula Dasappa and her husband Rajappa from Doddabhati in Davangere taluk.

Modus Operandi Unveiled

Zaitunabi, a former member of the Byadgi municipal corporation with extensive experience in childbirth facilitation, allegedly orchestrated the trafficking. She facilitated the handover of Kusuma’s baby to Manjula and Rajappa, who were found with the four-month-old child at their residence in Doddabhati village.

Legal Action and Investigation

Haveri district SP Anshukumar confirmed that a case has been registered under IPC section 370 (child trafficking) and the Juvenile Justice Act. Investigations are underway to determine the motive behind the trafficking and whether financial transactions were involved.

Government Intervention

The rescued baby has been handed over to a government adoption agency, while fraudulent documents, including a birth certificate, were recovered by the police during their investigation.
