Fake Facebook Account Impersonates City Police Commissioner Anupam Agarwal

In a recent social media scam, fraudsters have created a counterfeit Facebook account under the name of the city’s police commissioner, Anupam Agarwal, and used it to send friend requests to numerous individuals.

The impersonated profile, labeled “Anupam Agarwal IPS,” targeted various people on Facebook, leading some recipients to question the authenticity of the request. Their suspicions were confirmed when they reached out directly to Commissioner Agarwal, exposing the fraudulent profile’s existence.

Following these reports, Commissioner Anupam Agarwal made an official statement to address the issue, confirming that these friend requests were not legitimate and clarifying that he had no association with the account in question. He cautioned the public to remain vigilant, underscoring the need to verify any unusual requests before engaging.

The commissioner urged citizens to be aware of similar scams and warned against sharing personal information with unverified profiles. With social media frauds on the rise, individuals are encouraged to double-check suspicious accounts, especially those claiming to represent public figures, to avoid potential security risks.

This incident highlights the growing sophistication of social media scams, as fraudsters leverage recognizable names to deceive unsuspecting users. Authorities are investigating the case and advising citizens to report any dubious accounts imitating well-known officials to prevent further misuse.
