Bengaluru Police File Fir Against Bangladeshi Journalist And Jaipur Dialogues Staff For Spreading Fake News

Bengaluru police have filed a First Information Report (FIR) against Salah Uddin Shoaib Choudhury, a Bangladeshi journalist and editor of the newspaper Blitz, and Aditi, a staff member of the Indian news portal Jaipur Dialogues. The charges stem from allegations of disseminating fake news aimed at maligning Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi.

Details of the Allegations The FIR, lodged on Saturday following a complaint by Congress legal team member Srinivas G, accuses Choudhury of using his X account to spread false information. The allegations include claims that Sonia Gandhi is an agent of Pakistan’s ISI and that she continues to practice Christianity despite her inter-religion marriage and Indian citizenship. Additionally, Choudhury is said to have accused Rahul Gandhi and his foreign associate of sexually assaulting a woman.

Role of Jaipur Dialogues According to the complaint, Aditi of Jaipur Dialogues amplified these accusations by sharing Choudhury’s post on her X account, thus broadening its reach.

Legal Actions The High Grounds police have filed the FIR under Sections 196 and 353 (2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertain to promoting enmity between groups on religious grounds and publishing false information to incite hatred, respectively.
