A violent clash between rival gangs within the Parappana Agrahara Central Prison in Bengaluru has led to the booking of nine inmates. The incident, reported by Mallikarjun, Chief Superintendent of Central Prisons, unfolded in front of barracks III and IV on Saturday evening, resulting in injuries to several undertrial prisoners.
According to the complaint filed with the Parappana Agrahara police, inmates belonging to the Kulla Rizwan gang, including Vishwanath, Muniraj, Jaffer Sadiq, Vishal Gowda, Tippu Sultan, Sendil Kumar, Ajaya Singh, Kumar, and Irshad Pasha, allegedly attacked members of a rival gang – Rakesh, Guruprasad, Tejas, Dhanush, Sheshadri, and Amith Kumar – using stones.
The police have intervened, registering a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, including common intention and voluntarily causing hurt. Mallikarjun stated in the FIR that a lathi-charge was necessary to disperse the fighting factions, with injured inmates receiving treatment at the prison hospital.
It is reported that both gangs had longstanding grievances and were vying for control over the extortion racket within the prison premises.
