Brahmavar police have registered a case against Seetharama Naika, the elder son of Subraya Naika (66) from Kudi village, for not informing the authorities about his father’s suicide. Subraya Naika, who had been suffering from depression, tragically ended his life by hanging. Instead of notifying the police, Seetharama proceeded to perform his father’s last rites privately, which led to legal action.
Under Indian law, any death, especially those by unnatural causes such as suicide, must be reported to the authorities to ensure a thorough investigation and proper legal procedures. Failure to do so can result in charges, as seen in this case.
While it is reported that Subraya Naika had been battling depression, the failure to report the suicide to the police immediately has raised concerns. Authorities stress that informing the police in such cases is crucial to prevent misunderstandings, ensure the cause of death is clearly established, and rule out any foul play.
The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of following legal procedures in situations involving unnatural deaths. The case has been registered, and further investigation is underway.
