In a major breakthrough, Mulki police have apprehended Suresh, also known as Santosh (60), a repeat offender involved in multiple thefts and frauds aimed at elderly women across the region. The arrest follows an investigation into the theft of a gold chain from Sundari Poojari (73) in Mulki on August 5, 2024.
Sundari, en route to her daughter’s home, stopped in Mulki, where Suresh deceived her by posing as an acquaintance. He persuaded her to hand over her gold chain under the guise of ordering a duplicate, but he fled with the jewelry. Police identified Suresh, a resident of Kempugudde, Bantwal Taluk, and discovered he had committed similar thefts in other areas, including Karkala.
The team, led by inspector Sandesh P G and sub-inspector Krishnappa, along with crime division members, recovered 36 grams of gold, valued at approximately Rs 2.5 lakh. Police also found that Suresh had evaded court appearances, leading to a non-bailable warrant from a previous case in Puttur.
Under the guidance of Police Commissioner Anupam Agarwal, IPS, and other senior officials, this operation marks a significant effort to curb crimes targeting vulnerable elderly people. Investigations are ongoing to uncover additional cases involving the suspect.
