CHAMARAJANAGAR: The Chamarajanagar Town Police have apprehended a 43-year-old woman from Tamil Nadu, Lakshmi, in connection with a significant jewelry theft. Police have recovered 432 grams of gold jewelry, worth Rs 27 lakh, from her possession. The arrest was made under the supervision of Dr. B.T. Kavitha, Superintendent of Police (SP) for Chamarajanagar.
During a press briefing at the Chamarajanagar Town Police Station, SP Dr. Kavitha confirmed that Lakshmi has been presented in court and remanded to judicial custody.
The theft occurred on September 1, when Pushpalatha, a local resident, was traveling on a crowded KSRTC bus from Chamarajanagar to Satyamangala. Upon arriving at her destination, Pushpalatha discovered that 540 grams of gold jewelry, stored in her vanity bag, was missing. She promptly reported the theft to the Chamarajanagar Town Police.
Under the direction of SP Dr. Kavitha and Deputy Superintendent Lakshmaiah, the police launched a thorough investigation. CCTV footage from the KSRTC bus stand revealed Lakshmi as the culprit who had taken the jewelry from Pushpalatha’s bag. The investigation further traced Lakshmi’s escape route to Talavady, Tamil Nadu, where she had traveled by auto rickshaw after the theft.
Acting on this lead, the police team arrested Lakshmi in Talavady and recovered a portion of the stolen jewelry.
SP Dr. Kavitha commended the investigating team, including Town Police Inspector Rajesh, Sub-inspector Siddaraju, and constables Mohan Kumar, Lokesh, Mahadeva Ningaraju, and Rajeshwari, for their diligent work in resolving the case.
