A resident of Chitradurga, Gopal, has filed a plea for mercy killing for himself and his daughter, who he claims suffered brain damage due to unauthorized medical research at a government hospital in Chamarajpet, Davanagere.

According to Gopal, the hospital conducted experimental research on his wife’s lungs when she was eight months pregnant, allegedly without proper consent. He claims this resulted in his daughter’s current vegetative state due to brain damage. Despite his efforts to seek action against the responsible doctor, Gopal alleges that no action has been taken because the doctor is shielded by senior Congress leader Shamanur Shivashankarappa.

In a video shared on social media, Gopal expressed his anguish, stating, “We have not got justice, and our fundamental rights have been snatched. We cannot live in this society. The research on pregnant women should stop. The government should take responsibility for my wife and daughter.”

He has also submitted an application to the legal services authority, seeking approval for euthanasia. Gopal’s plea highlights the need for stricter oversight in medical research and justice for affected families.

Further investigation into the allegations and the family’s condition is awaited.
