Davangere MP Prabha Mallikarjun has criticized the poor implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), calling it a “complete failure” due to insufficient financial aid. She urged officials to document the scheme’s shortcomings and pledged to raise the issue in Parliament.
At the DISHA progress review meeting, the MP noted that beneficiaries are unwilling to participate due to inadequate funding. Honnali MLA D.G. Shantagouda highlighted that rural recipients receive only ₹1.2 lakh—insufficient even for laying a foundation. Officials revealed that out of 26,000 housing applicants in the district, 16,000 rejected the scheme. A proposal to merge state and central housing funds has been submitted.
The MP also addressed health concerns, emphasizing the need to reduce maternal and infant mortality rates. She urged better coordination between the Health and Women & Child Welfare departments to ensure timely care for high-risk pregnancies. Drawing comparisons with Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and Maharashtra, she called for improved awareness of government health initiatives.
Additionally, Mallikarjun criticized “influential” government staff members who manipulate transfers and hinder work. She demanded their accountability and stressed the need for better hospital hygiene, timely patient care, and urgent repairs to the dilapidated mortuary at Chigateri District General Hospital.
