Davangere: The country’s third Swachcha Gruha Kalika Kendra (Clean Home Learning Centre) will soon become operational in Davangere, following Bengaluru and Siddipet in Telangana.

Developed by the City Corporation at a cost of ₹1.6 crore, the centre is located at the J H Patel Layout park. It aims to train residents, including schoolchildren, organizations, and hotel owners, on scientifically converting organic waste into manure for home gardening.

Basavanna, Davangere City Corporation Environment Engineer, stated that participants would learn methods for disposing of organic waste using home, leaf, and community composting units. Contact details of suppliers for biogas plants and composting units will be displayed for easy access to expert guidance.

A 500-kg capacity biogas plant has been installed to demonstrate how hoteliers and hostels can generate biogas from kitchen waste. The centre also features vermicomposting demonstrations, promoting eco-friendly methods to turn waste into organic fertilizer.

The corporation has spent ₹30 lakh on machines installed at the centre, showcasing options for nuclear families, joint families, and apartment complexes. Practical demonstrations on waste-to-manure conversion will help reduce organic waste and promote sustainability.

The centre is ready for inauguration, with Davangere MP Prabha Mallikarjun expected to launch it soon.
