Dengue Impacting Children: School Advisory Issued in Karnataka
As of July 27, children aged 6-16 years represent 25% of the dengue cases in Karnataka, according to data from the School Education Department. Out of 17,227 dengue cases reported, 5,495 involve school-aged children.
In response to the rise in dengue and chikungunya cases, the department has issued an advisory for schools. School authorities are instructed to distribute mosquito repellent creams to students and educate parents about seeking medical attention if symptoms arise. Additionally, schools must manage mosquito breeding grounds by disposing of unused tyres and taking other preventive measures.
The advisory highlights the need for precaution as dengue is transmitted by mosquitoes primarily during the day, when children are at school. The goal is to mitigate the spread and protect students from this seasonal outbreak.
