Kalaburagi District Commissioner Fouzia Tarannum has launched a vigorous campaign to combat the spread of dengue fever, following recent floods that have exacerbated the situation. At a district disaster management authority meeting, DC Tarannum directed officials to conduct a comprehensive survey and eliminate mosquito breeding sites within the next three days. This initiative targets schools, anganwadis, and hostels across the district.
DC Tarannum emphasized the importance of curbing the infectious disease by mandating monthly medical check-ups for hostel students. She has ordered doctors from Primary Health Centers (PHCs) and Community Health Centers (CHCs) to visit educational and child care institutions, as well as villages, to raise public awareness, destroy mosquito breeding sites, and prevent water stagnation—an essential step to stop Aedes mosquitoes from multiplying.
Additionally, Tarannum stressed the need for cleaning water tanks in schools and hostels and urged the municipal zonal commissioner to prioritize cleanliness in Kalaburagi city. She called for the removal of black spots and heightened awareness among public and market traders about proper waste disposal practices.
The District Health Officer (DHO) has been tasked with organizing dengue control awareness programs in every taluk to further educate the community on prevention measures.
