Dharwad: The Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation has announced the acquisition of 41 new auto tippers (garbage collection vehicles) to enhance waste management services. Hubli-Dharwad Metropolitan Commissioner Ishwara Ullagaddi stated that these vehicles would be distributed zone-wise shortly.
Allocation of Surplus Funds
At the general meeting held at the Municipal Corporation office hall on Wednesday, Commissioner Ullagaddi revealed that the surplus funds from the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (SBM) initiative were allocated for the purchase of these auto tippers. Initially, 132 vehicles were proposed for purchase, with 101 receiving approval. The remaining 60 vehicles will be procured in the second phase.
Current Vehicle Status and Future Plans
The Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation currently requires 470 auto tippers for effective garbage collection but has only 216 vehicles in operation, of which 199 are equipped with GPS systems. On average, 15 vehicles are sent for repairs daily. Commissioner Ullagaddi also mentioned the imminent supply of compactor vehicles to further improve waste management.
Addressing Civic Issues
The Commissioner acknowledged the presence of more civil servants in the corporation and assured that any issues related to garbage disposal, collection vehicles, or civic workers brought to their attention would be promptly addressed. Starting this week, the Commissioner will visit one ward each week to observe and evaluate the systems in place.
Dengue Control Measures
Commissioner Ullagaddi informed the meeting that ₹5 lakh has been sanctioned for each zone for dengue control measures, including fogging, spraying, and guppy fish farming to mitigate mosquito breeding.
In response to the concerns, Commissioner Ullagaddi assured the members that attention would be given to resolving these problems, and efforts would be made to improve municipal services across the city.
The meeting underscored the ongoing efforts and challenges in managing civic amenities in Hubli-Dharwad, reflecting the administration’s commitment to addressing these issues comprehensively.
