VIJAYAPURA: A dramatic incident unfolded at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Circle on Friday afternoon when a police officer from the Hubballi Suburban police station waved a pistol while executing an arrest in public. The scene attracted a large crowd as the officer, in plain clothes, aimed to control the situation and apprehend the accused.
Avinash Machchale, a resident of Kolhapur, Maharashtra, was wanted for stealing copper wire from the Hubballi industrial area. Acting on a tip-off that Avinash was in Vijayapura with his family, plainclothes officers from Hubballi Suburban police arrived to arrest him.
As officers moved to detain Avinash, he resisted arrest, leading to a physical altercation involving the women accompanying him. The commotion drew a large crowd, prompting Assistant Sub-Inspector Honnappanavar to exit the police vehicle and wave a pistol to disperse the onlookers and control the situation.
The police successfully apprehended Avinash and transported him to the Gol Gumbaz police station before taking him to Hubballi for further processing. The incident highlights the challenges faced by law enforcement officers in executing arrests and maintaining order in public spaces.
