Corporators from Hubballi-Dharwad, often critical of the water supply management and the delayed 24X7 water supply project, conducted an on-ground inspection on Monday to assess its progress. Accompanied by Mayor Ramappa Badiger and HDMC Commissioner Ishwar Ullagaddi, they visited key sites, including jackwells at Neerasagar and Savadatti and water treatment plants at Kanavihonnapur and Amminbhavi.

Officials from KUIDFC and L&T briefed the team, explaining that pipelines are being laid, and tanks are under construction, with the project expected to conclude by December. They also revealed that an additional 43 MLD of water is being sourced for the twin cities. Despite minor legal delays caused by farmers opposing pipeline work near Savadatti, most issues have been resolved, and work has resumed at an accelerated pace.

Commissioner Ullagaddi acknowledged the slower progress of pipeline installations within the cities and promised to expedite the work. He emphasized that once completed, the project would ensure round-the-clock water supply for all areas. Mayor Badiger highlighted the importance of firsthand inspections to understand ground realities and address concerns.

Some corporators raised questions about why consistent water supply remains unavailable in all wards despite years of project implementation. They proposed holding a special meeting to discuss the project’s status and challenges.

Deputy Mayor Durgamma Bijwad, opposition leader Rajashekhar Kamati, and several other corporators participated in the visit.
