Dharwad: A 29-year-old woman was allegedly murdered by her husband in Hanashi village of Navalgund taluk in Dharwad district, with police claiming that the accused had been harassing her over her body weight and inability to conceive. The accused and three others have been arrested in connection with the case.

The victim has been identified as Priyanka Kamalakar, while the main accused is her husband, Basavaraj Vadder. Police have registered a case at the Navalgund Police Station and launched an investigation into the incident.

Marriage lasted only a year

According to the police, Basavaraj and Priyanka were married in 2024.

Investigators said the couple initially shared a cordial relationship. However, over time, Basavaraj allegedly began harassing his wife by making derogatory remarks about her body weight and blaming her for not becoming pregnant.

Police said the alleged harassment gradually escalated into violence.

Woman allegedly strangled to death

According to the preliminary investigation, the incident occurred on Monday night at the couple’s residence in Hanashi village.

Police suspect that Basavaraj allegedly strangled Priyanka to death. The incident came to light later, following which the police were informed and a case was registered.

Four arrested in connection with case

Following the complaint and preliminary inquiry, Navalgund Police arrested Basavaraj Vadder.
