Mangaluru: The Annual Training Camp (ATC) organised by 6 Karnataka Air Squadron NCC commenced on June 1, 2026, at St Joseph Engineering College with enthusiastic participation from National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadets representing educational institutions across Dakshina Kannada and Kodagu districts.

The 10-day camp aims to provide structured military training while nurturing discipline, leadership, patriotism, camaraderie, and national integration among cadets. The camp brings together Senior Division (SD), Senior Wing (SW), Junior Division (JD), and Junior Wing (JW) cadets on a common platform to experience military life and collective learning.

Comprehensive training programme for cadets

The camp features an extensive training schedule designed to develop both physical and intellectual capabilities among cadets.

Training activities include drill, physical training, yoga, weapon training, aero-modelling, and aviation-related subjects such as principles of flight, navigation, meteorology, aircraft familiarisation, and airmanship.

Cadets will also undergo firing practice and participate in a variety of extracurricular activities, including cultural programmes, sports competitions, and social service initiatives.

Organisers stated that the programme has been designed to provide holistic development and prepare cadets for future leadership roles.

Expert sessions to enhance knowledge and skills

As part of the camp, special lectures by distinguished speakers from the Armed Forces, civil administration, disaster management agencies, the medical fraternity, and other professional sectors have been scheduled.

These sessions are intended to broaden the cadets’ perspectives, enhance their knowledge of contemporary issues, and contribute to their personality development.

The organisers believe that interactions with experts from diverse fields will help cadets develop confidence, awareness, and a deeper sense of responsibility towards society and the nation.

Camp Commandant highlights importance of leadership

Addressing the cadets during the inaugural programme, Wing Commander Praveen Kaveriappa, Camp Commandant, emphasised the importance of discipline, teamwork, self-confidence, and leadership in shaping responsible citizens and future leaders.

He encouraged the cadets to make optimum use of the training opportunities provided during the camp and to imbibe the core values of the NCC.

Wing Commander Kaveriappa also highlighted the role of NCC in developing character, courage, and commitment among young people.

Support from SJEC and NCC staff

The camp is being conducted with the active support of the staff of 6 Karnataka Air Squadron NCC, Associate NCC Officers of participating institutions, and the management of St Joseph Engineering College.

Officials stated that the Annual Training Camp is expected to provide a transformative experience for cadets by instilling military ethos, improving physical fitness, and enhancing overall personality development in line with the aims and objectives of the NCC.

The camp will continue over the next 10 days with a series of training sessions, educational activities, competitions, and community engagement programmes.
