New Delhi: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has dismissed claims that its Class 12 re-evaluation portal was inaccessible, stating that the platform remained operational despite facing cyberattack attempts on the day applications opened. The board said more than 16,000 students had successfully completed their submissions by 3 pm on June 2.

The re-evaluation portal was activated in the early hours of June 2, a day after its originally scheduled launch. Soon after, several students took to social media platforms, including X and Reddit, alleging difficulties in accessing the website and completing their applications.

However, CBSE maintained that the system was functioning normally and attributed some disruptions to malicious cyber activity targeting the platform.

CBSE reports denial-of-service attack

In an official statement, CBSE said the portal was handling significant traffic from students across the country while simultaneously facing attempts to disrupt its operations.

According to the board, the platform was supporting more than 8,000 concurrent users during the day. It also revealed that attackers attempted to overwhelm the system through a denial-of-service (DoS) attack.

CBSE stated that the most recent attack generated nearly 15 lakh hits on the portal within just two minutes. The board also reported more than 1 lakh unauthorised attempts to access files hosted on the platform.

Despite these attempts, officials said the portal continued to function and remained available for students seeking verification and re-evaluation services.

More than 16,000 applications submitted

CBSE highlighted that thousands of students successfully accessed the portal and completed their applications throughout the day.

The board noted that over 16,000 students had submitted their requests by 3 pm, demonstrating that the system remained operational despite the cyber threats.

Earlier this year, approximately 4 lakh students had applied for access to around 11.3 lakh answer sheets through the post-result process. Based on the figures released by the board, roughly 4 per cent of eligible students had completed the verification or re-evaluation process by Tuesday afternoon.

Officials stressed that technical teams continued monitoring the platform to ensure smooth operations and quick responses to any issues that might arise.

CBSE introduces improvements after feedback

Responding to concerns raised by students, CBSE said it had made further refinements to the portal.

One of the key changes involves extending session time limits to provide students with a more convenient and seamless application experience. The board said the adjustments were introduced after reviewing user feedback received during the initial hours of operation.

CBSE added that its teams remain vigilant and are working continuously to ensure students can access services without unnecessary difficulty.

Parliamentary panel discusses CBSE-related concerns

The development comes on the same day a Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education, Women, Children, Youth and Sports held a meeting to discuss issues related to education administration.

During the proceedings, Sarthak Sidhant reportedly presented findings related to alleged discrepancies involving a contract between CBSE and Coempt EduTeck.

While the committee’s discussions were separate from the re-evaluation portal issue, the meeting added to ongoing scrutiny of education-related administrative processes.

Conclusion

CBSE has rejected claims that its re-evaluation portal suffered major technical failures, instead attributing disruptions to cyberattack attempts and unusually high traffic. With more than 16,000 successful submissions reported by mid-afternoon, the board says it continues to strengthen the platform while ensuring students can complete their verification and re-evaluation applications without difficulty.
