DK Schools to Compensate for Monsoon Holidays with Full-Day Saturday Classes

Dakshina Kannada Schools To Compensate For Monsoon Holidays With Full Day Saturday Classes

The Dakshina Kannada district administration recently declared 13 days of holidays for schools and colleges due to the heavy monsoon season. To make up for the lost instructional time, the education department has planned full-day classes on 26 Saturdays throughout the academic year. This measure aims to ensure that students, especially those preparing for critical exams like SSLC and PUC, do not fall behind.

Officials from the education department acknowledged that while the district has a history of granting monsoon holidays, previous attempts to compensate for these breaks with additional classes were not effectively implemented. This year, however, the department is taking a more structured approach. For SSLC students, special classes will be held every morning and evening to cover the syllabus. Schools have been instructed to adjust their schedules accordingly.

For Pre-University (PU) colleges, full-day Saturday classes will be mandatory, and if necessary, half-day classes on Sundays may be introduced. However, due to resistance from students involved in CET, NEET, and JEE preparations, Sunday classes remain a point of contention. Some colleges have already commenced full-day Saturday sessions, while others are expected to follow suit soon.

The district education department is also considering reducing Dasara and Christmas holidays to further compensate for the missed days. Adjustments will begin in September and continue through February to balance the discrepancies in holiday declarations across different taluks.
