New Delhi: The Federation of All India Medical Association has urged the Centre and the National Testing Agency to announce Re-NEET examination dates at the earliest, along with a series of relief measures for medical aspirants affected by the cancellation of the medical entrance exam.
The demand comes after the cancellation of NEET UG 2026, which was conducted on May 3 and later scrapped following allegations of a paper leak and inputs shared by law enforcement agencies.
FAIMA has stated that timely communication of the revised schedule is crucial to reduce anxiety among students and ensure fair preparation time.
FAIMA calls for early exam date announcement
In a post on social media platform X, FAIMA stressed the need for an early announcement of Re-NEET dates, warning that delays could significantly impact students’ revision plans.
The association said aspirants require sufficient time to revise already completed portions of the syllabus and mentally prepare for a re-examination scenario.
According to FAIMA, uncertainty around exam timing is adding to stress among students and parents, especially those who had already completed travel and accommodation arrangements for the earlier exam cycle.
The medical body has therefore requested that the revised schedule be released without further delay.
Demand for nearby exam centres and travel relief
FAIMA has also raised concerns regarding the allocation of examination centres, urging authorities to ensure that centres are assigned closer to candidates’ preferred locations.
The association argued that students and families should not be forced to incur additional travel and accommodation costs due to the re-exam process.
It stated that logistical challenges often create unnecessary financial pressure on aspirants, particularly those coming from remote or economically weaker backgrounds.
By prioritising nearby centre allocation, FAIMA believes the re-exam process can be made more student-friendly and accessible.
Proposal for relaxed entry rules sparks debate
One of the more debated suggestions made by FAIMA is allowing students a grace period of 10 to 20 minutes for entry into exam centres in case of delays.
Currently, the National Testing Agency maintains a strict policy that generally does not permit entry even if a candidate is late by a few minutes.
FAIMA has argued that minor delays caused by unforeseen circumstances should not lead to students missing such a crucial examination.
However, this proposal is expected to draw scrutiny, as examination bodies typically enforce strict entry rules to maintain discipline and fairness during high-stakes national exams.
Focus on basic facilities and exam preparedness
The association has also highlighted complaints from students regarding inadequate basic facilities at some examination centres during previous attempts.
Issues such as lack of clean drinking water, poor ventilation and malfunctioning fans were reportedly raised by candidates.
FAIMA has urged authorities to ensure that all exam centres are adequately equipped with essential amenities to avoid discomfort during long examination hours.
It has also requested clarity on any potential changes in examination format, advising that students should be informed well in advance if new modes of testing are introduced.
NEET cancellation triggers nationwide uncertainty
The cancellation of NEET UG 2026 came after allegations of a paper leak, prompting the NTA to review inputs from multiple law enforcement agencies.
Officials stated that based on the evidence received, continuing with the exam was not feasible, leading to its cancellation across the country.
The revised schedule and admit cards for the re-examination are expected to be released soon, with reports suggesting an announcement could come early next week.
The development has left lakhs of medical aspirants in uncertainty, as they await clarity on the future course of one of India’s most competitive entrance examinations.
For now, FAIMA’s demands add to the growing pressure on authorities to ensure a transparent, timely and student-friendly re-examination process.
