Mangaluru: The Department of Biochemistry at Father Muller Medical College, Kankanady, hosted the 10th Annual State-Level AMBKCCON 2025 Conference on 22 May 2025, under the banner of the Association of Medical Biochemists Karnataka Chapter (AMBKC). Themed “Insight into Women’s Health: Biochemical Frontiers in Women’s Wellness,” the conference brought together medical professionals and researchers from across the southern states.
A grand inauguration with key voices in medical biochemistry
The inaugural ceremony was held at the Decennial Memorial Hall, Knowledge Centre, at 10:15 AM. Dr Barnali Das, Lead Consultant in Laboratory Medicine at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital and Medical Research Institute, Mumbai, was the Chief Guest for the occasion. The function was presided over by Rev. Fr Richard Aloysius Coelho, Director of Father Muller Charitable Institutions (FMCI).
The programme began with a prayer, followed by a welcome address from Dr Maitreyee DS, Professor and Head of the Department of Biochemistry, FMMC. The formal inauguration featured a ceremonial lamp-lighting ceremony by the dignitaries.
In her keynote, Dr Das stressed the critical importance of biochemistry in advancing women’s wellness, shedding light on recent innovations and urging continued scientific inquiry. “Biochemistry is central to understanding the complexity of women’s health—from hormonal pathways to metabolic disorders,” she noted.
Rev. Fr Coelho, in his presidential address, lauded the department for hosting a conference of such scale and relevance. “Conferences like these play a transformative role in shaping the future of medicine by building awareness and encouraging collaborative learning,” he said.
Dr Shailaja A. Katti, Professor of Biochemistry and Organising Secretary, delivered the vote of thanks, and the event concluded with the rendition of the institutional anthem.
A platform for progressive dialogue and collaboration
The academic conference included five pre-conference workshops, multiple scientific sessions, poster and oral presentations, and a postgraduate quiz. These events covered a wide range of topics in cutting-edge biochemical research related to women’s health, such as reproductive biochemistry, endocrine disorders, and molecular diagnostics.
The conference drew delegates from Karnataka, Goa, Kerala, and Telangana, creating a vibrant platform for interdisciplinary learning and regional collaboration in the field of medical biochemistry.
AMBKCCON 2025 not only marked a decade of academic excellence but also reinforced the role of biochemistry in transforming healthcare outcomes for women, setting the tone for future research and innovations.
