Farmworkers, drivers, and frontline roles will experience the largest job growth by 2030, while cashiers and administrative roles face steep declines, according to the World Economic Forum’s (WEF) Future of Jobs Report 2025. Released ahead of the WEF Annual Meeting in Davos, the report projects the creation of 170 million new jobs globally, with 92 million expected to be displaced, resulting in a net gain of 78 million positions.
The report highlights that 22% of jobs are at risk of disruption by 2030, driven by technological advances, demographic shifts, and economic pressures. AI, big data, and renewable energy are reshaping industries, while human-centric skills such as creativity, resilience, and adaptability remain crucial.
Care and education sectors will see significant growth, with roles like nursing professionals and secondary school teachers in high demand due to demographic trends. Meanwhile, technological roles like software developers and environmental engineers are booming, fueled by advancements in AI and renewable energy systems.
Conversely, roles such as cashiers, administrative assistants, and graphic designers are declining rapidly, influenced by automation and generative AI. Employers plan to leverage AI, with 77% aiming to upskill workers and 41% planning workforce reductions due to automation.
The fastest-growing skills by 2030 include AI, cybersecurity, creative thinking, and lifelong learning, underscoring the importance of blending technological expertise with human ingenuity in an evolving job market.
