Mumbai: The Maharashtra State Council of Examination (MSCE) has postponed the Maharashtra Teacher Eligibility Test (MAHA TET) 2026 following reports of a suspected question paper leak in Bhiwandi. The examination, which was scheduled to be held on June 28, 2026, has been deferred to ensure a fair and transparent selection process while authorities investigate the alleged malpractice.
In an official notification, the council said the decision was taken after preliminary verification indicated that certain individuals in Bhiwandi were in possession of questions matching those in the MAHA TET 2026 examination paper.
Exam postponed to ensure transparency
According to the MSCE, the Teacher Eligibility Test was set to be conducted at 1,028 examination centres across Maharashtra. The council stated that extensive security measures had already been implemented to safeguard the examination process.
However, authorities received information suggesting that some individuals in Bhiwandi had access to confidential question paper content before the examination.
Following the tip-off, the Bhiwandi Police conducted a raid, and officials from the Maharashtra State Council of Examination joined the investigation.
During the preliminary inquiry, officials reportedly found that several questions recovered from the suspects matched those in the official MAHA TET 2026 question paper.
Based on these findings, a criminal case has been registered at the Bhiwandi Police Station.
Decision taken after preliminary verification
The examination council said it decided to postpone the examination after the initial verification confirmed similarities between the recovered questions and the official paper.
In its notification, the MSCE said it was committed to conducting the examination with “absolute transparency” and believed a comprehensive investigation was necessary before holding the test.
The council added that protecting the integrity and credibility of the examination process remained its highest priority.
Security measures had already been strengthened
The MSCE noted that security arrangements for MAHA TET 2026 had been strengthened in view of examination-related malpractices reported in other competitive examinations, including NEET 2026.
Despite implementing enhanced security protocols, the suspected leak prompted authorities to suspend the examination until the investigation is completed.
Officials have not yet announced a revised examination date.
Candidates advised to monitor official website
The Maharashtra State Council of Examination has advised candidates to regularly check its official website for updates regarding the rescheduled examination and other related announcements.
The council said fresh information, including the revised examination schedule, would be published after the ongoing investigation progresses.
