Mangalore: Centre for Advance Learning (CFAL) & Early Learning Centre (ELC) is hosting the Mangalore Literature and Heritage Festival from November 16th to 24th. In collaboration with artists, conservationists, and heritage organizations, CFAL has curated a vibrant series of experiences celebrating Mangalore’s heritage, sustainability, and artistic traditions.

This week-long festival offers hands-on activities, immersive workshops, and captivating presentations, inviting participants to connect deeply with Mangalore’s cultural and natural landscape. It’s a journey of exploration, creativity, and meaningful connection.

Nov 16 – Azulejo Workshop | Mandala Art

  • The day features two parallel sessions. In the Azulejo Tile Painting session, participants explore this timeless art form, learning its history, techniques, and cultural significance. Meanwhile, the Mandala Art workshop guides participants in creating intricate designs focused on symmetry, flow, and balance. Both experiences offer unique opportunities for immersion in expressive art forms.

Nov 17 – Stucco Wall Art | Calligraphy Workshop | Heritage Walk

  • A variety of events are staggered throughout the day. Starting with a Heritage Walk in Car Street, participants will experience Mangalore’s vibrant history and cultural landscape. Later in the morning, they’ll delve into the intricate world of Stucco Art, inspired by motifs from the Museum of Old Goa, creating their own wall art. Additionally, the Calligraphy Workshop will introduce attendees to various tools and techniques to refine their lettering skills.

Nov 21 – Urban Sketching Event

  • Capture Mangalore’s essence through an open urban sketching event, using pen, pencil, or color to bring the city’s character to life.

Nov 23 – Art Competitions, Heritage Walks, Panel Discussions, Storytelling Sessions

  • On November 23, the historic Old DC Office transforms into a vibrant hub of culture, creativity, and community with a series of engaging events. From an Art Contest to Photo Exhibitions, this day promises a celebration of sustainability and heritage. Visitors can enjoy Mini Heritage Walks around the premises, exploring the architectural beauty of the Old DC Office. The art contest for government school students will also feature a popular illustrator and author, who will guide the children in understanding how to bring their vision of a heritage monument to life on paper. They will learn how to express their creative ideas through art, gaining valuable insights on how to transform their imagination into a visual masterpiece. The day will end with a musical performance.

 

Nov 24 – Mangalore Heritage Group – Heritage Walk at Bunder

  • Explore the city’s heritage on a walk through Bunder, discovering stories of trade, culture, and architecture that have shaped Mangalore.

Throughout the week, students at ELC & CFAL will have the chance to connect with local heritage and art through a heritage tour to Guttu Mane, a visit to Mangalore’s oldest tile factories, a Lime and Mud Plastering workshop, and a Kaavi Art workshop with celebrated artist Janardhan Rao Havanje.
