The Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) will commence Hasiru – Usiru, an afforestation drive, starting July 8. The MCC has purchased 10,000 saplings from the forest department, to be distributed across all 60 wards. The inaugural ceremony will be held at Kudmul Ranga Rao Town Hall on July 8, announced Mayor Sudheer Shetty Kannur.

“The afforestation drive involves all ward corporators and will focus on government lands, including areas around overhead water tanks, public spaces, and office premises. A drip irrigation facility will also be provided for the saplings,” the mayor stated.

Eligible students from Kannada medium government and aided schools within MCC limits can apply by submitting their marks list and a certificate from their school head. The corporation has allocated Rs 5 lakh for this initiative.

Furthermore, all Brahmashri Narayana Guru shrines in Mangaluru will receive Rs 15,000 each from the MCC to celebrate Sri Narayana Guru Jayanti this year. Committees of these shrines can apply for the aid by detailing their celebration programs. This financial aid scheme will continue annually.
