Karnataka Deputy CM DK Shivakumar emphasized the lasting impact of former PM Manmohan Singh, stating that his contributions to rural employment and economic stability must be remembered. Following CM Siddaramaiah’s announcement to rename Bengaluru City University after Singh, Shivakumar hinted at more institutions bearing his name.
“Manmohan Singh’s legacy is unparalleled after Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, and Rajiv Gandhi. His policies have ensured food security and employment in rural India,” said Shivakumar.
During the Budget Session, Siddaramaiah confirmed the university’s new name: Dr. Manmohan Singh Bengaluru City University. He also announced that Government Arts College and Government R.C. College will become its constituent institutions, aiming to transform it into a model university.
Additionally, the government will establish a VTU constituent college in Chintamani, Chikkaballapur, with a ₹150 crore investment. At Mysore University, a Prof. Nanjundaswamy Research Chair will be set up.
