Mangaluru: St Aloysius (Deemed to be University), Mangaluru, organised an awareness-oriented guest talk on “Digital Safety First: Guarding against Cyber Frauds” to equip students with practical knowledge on online security and responsible digital behaviour.
The programme was organised by the Department of Business Administration (UG) under the School of Business and Management and was held at L. F. Rasquinha Hall, drawing active participation from undergraduate students and faculty members.

Focus on cyber safety in the digital age
The session began with a prayer rendered by the college choir, setting a reflective tone for the event. The staff convener welcomed the gathering and underlined the growing relevance of cyber safety in an increasingly digital world, where students are frequent users of online platforms for learning, communication and financial transactions.
Insights from law enforcement officials
The resource person for the talk was Shri Maruthi P, Police Sub-Inspector, South Police Station, Pandeshwara. He delivered an engaging and informative session highlighting common forms of cyber fraud, including online financial scams, phishing attacks, identity theft and social media misuse. Drawing from real-life case studies, he explained preventive measures and stressed the importance of vigilance, secure digital practices and timely reporting of cybercrime.
Shri Babu, Assistant Sub-Inspector, Mangaluru North Police Station, Bunder, attended the programme as a special invitee, adding value to the discussion through his presence and interaction.
Interactive learning for students
The session encouraged interaction, enabling students to clarify doubts and understand how cybercrime affects individuals and institutions alike. Practical safety tips shared during the programme helped students relate cyber security concepts to everyday digital activities.

A total of 450 undergraduate students benefitted from the awareness programme, reinforcing the university’s commitment to student safety and responsible digital citizenship.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Ms Carrel Sharel Pereira, Staff Convener, who expressed gratitude to the resource persons, organisers and participants for making the session meaningful and impactful.
