Mangaluru: The Department of History at St. Aloysius (Deemed to be University) successfully hosted ‘INSPIRE – Chapter 4’, an initiative showcasing individuals who have been catalysts for societal change. The event’s distinguished guest was Mr. Terence Andrade, a Silicon Valley-based professional with roots tracing back to Mangaluru and Karachi.
Journey of an Inspirational Leader
Born in Karachi, Terence Andrade pursued his early education at St. Patrick’s High School & College, excelling both academically and in sports. A dedicated hockey player, he led the NED College team to multiple championships and later represented Karachi University in the All-Pakistan Inter-University Hockey Championships (1971).
Andrade earned a degree in Electrical Engineering from NED College (now NED University) in 1973 before completing an MS in Electrical & Computer Engineering at Oregon State University. His career in Silicon Valley began with AMD in 1979, where he played a key role in microprocessor development, contributing to eight generations of processors and leading high-volume production operations worldwide.

During his address, Andrade shared personal anecdotes, highlighting how growing up in Pakistan shaped his perspective and helped him discover his talents. He urged students to embrace their shared cultural and historical heritage, cautioning against media-driven divisiveness and emphasizing the importance of unity and mutual respect.
University Leadership and Participation
The event, organized under the leadership of Dr. Mona Mendonca, Head of the Department of History, saw participation from key faculty members, including Dr. Alwyn Dsa (Registrar, SAC), Dr. Charles Furtado (Director, Admin Block), and Mr. Kishore Chandra (Assistant Professor, History Department). Over 90 students actively engaged in the session, making it an interactive and insightful experience.
