Mangaluru: The School of Engineering (SOE) at St Aloysius (Deemed to be University) formally inaugurated the first-year engineering classes and the Students’ Induction Programme (SIP) for the 2026–30 batch on Monday at L F Rasquinha Hall, LCRI Block.
The induction programme was organised under the guidance of Dr. Geetha M. Pinto, Associate Dean, School of Engineering, as Convenor, and Dr. Praveen Prakash Dsouza, Assistant Professor, as Co-Convenor.
Ceremony marks beginning of academic journey
The programme commenced with an invocation prayer seeking blessings for the students’ four-year academic journey, followed by a welcome dance, formal welcome address, and the traditional lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries to mark the beginning of the new academic session.
The inaugural ceremony brought together university officials, faculty members, students, and parents to welcome the new batch of engineering students.
Experts encourage innovation and holistic development
Dr. T. Lazar Mathew, Senior Advisor at Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), Manipal, attended the event as the Chief Guest. Addressing the students, he spoke about the evolving landscape of engineering education and emphasised the importance of innovation and adaptability in the profession.
The Guest of Honour, Prof. ThLic. Miloš Lichner SJ, Rector of the University of Trnava, inspired the students by encouraging them to pursue knowledge with commitment and purpose.
Presiding over the programme, Rev. Dr. Praveen Martis SJ, Vice Chancellor of St Aloysius (Deemed to be University), urged the freshers to strive for academic excellence while nurturing strong values, character, and holistic personal development throughout their university journey.
Orientation sessions introduce students to engineering education
Following the inaugural ceremony and the vote of thanks, the programme continued with technical and orientation sessions designed to familiarise students with engineering education and future career opportunities.
After a short tea break, Dr. T. Lazar Mathew and Dr. Ruban conducted interactive sessions that introduced the freshers to the expectations of the engineering profession and the opportunities that lie ahead.
The induction programme concluded on an encouraging note, setting a positive foundation for the students as they embarked on their undergraduate engineering education at St Aloysius University.
