Mangaluru: St Aloysius (Deemed to be University) celebrated its 146th Annual Day with the theme “Shalom: Enkindling Peace, Inspiring Unity,” reflecting its commitment to fostering harmony, unity, and holistic student development.

The celebration brought together students, faculty, alumni, and guests, highlighting the institution’s achievements and vibrant campus culture.

Chief guest inspires students with life lessons

The event was graced by John Sunil, an alumnus and a public-listed healthcare management leader based in the Middle East, as the Chief Guest.

In his address, he emphasised that success is not defined by marks or ranks, but by values, discipline, and resilience developed through life’s journey.

Reflecting on his personal experiences, he shared that he was not a topper and credited his teachers, including Prof B. S. Ramman and Prof Narahari, for shaping his intellectual outlook beyond academics.

He also highlighted the importance of learning from failures, stating that setbacks provide opportunities for growth and self-improvement. Recognised among the top 25 executives by Forbes in 2025, he encouraged students to pursue excellence while staying grounded in values.

Encouraging entrepreneurship and innovation

John Sunil urged students to explore entrepreneurship and innovation, noting the vast opportunities emerging in areas such as artificial intelligence, digital transformation, and global connectivity.

He emphasised that entrepreneurship requires responsibility, resilience, and continuous learning, rather than being driven by glamour. He advised students to build strong relationships, remain patient, and stay committed to their goals.

Message of peace and unity

In his presidential address, Rev. Fr Melwin Joseph Pinto SJ, Pro Chancellor and Rector, highlighted the significance of the theme “Shalom,” meaning peace.

He stressed that peace begins within individuals and must be nurtured daily to create harmony in society. He also appreciated the Chief Guest for candidly sharing his failures, noting that such honesty inspires students to grow stronger through challenges.
