Bengaluru: St John’s College of Nursing celebrated its 43rd annual convocation and College Day on April 17, 2026, at the St John’s Auditorium, conferring degrees on 218 graduates across various nursing programmes. The event marked a significant milestone in the academic journey of students and highlighted the institution’s legacy in nursing education.

A total of 218 students graduated, including 99 Basic B.Sc Nursing, 32 Post Basic B.Sc (P.B.BSc), 59 General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM), 25 MSc Nursing, and 3 Nurse Practitioners in Critical Care (NPCC), reflecting the institution’s diverse academic offerings.

Legacy of excellence in nursing education

Affiliated with Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) and the Karnataka Board of Education, the CBCI-governed institution has been a pioneer in nursing education since 1980. With state-of-the-art facilities, experienced faculty, and the support of a 1,350-bed parent hospital, the college has produced 5,053 alumni worldwide.

The alumni base includes 1,892 GNM graduates, 1,840 B.Sc Nursing graduates, 877 P.B.BSc graduates, 435 MSc graduates, and 9 NPCC professionals, contributing significantly to healthcare services globally.

Ceremony begins with thanksgiving mass

The event commenced with a thanksgiving Holy Mass, followed by the formal convocation ceremony. The programme was presided over by Rev. Dr. Victor Lobo and Rev. Fr. Jesudoss Rajamanickam, Director of St John’s National Academy of Health Sciences, along with other members of the academy’s leadership.

Rev. Fr. Ajit Kerketta introduced the Chief Guest and highlighted his contributions to society, especially his service to the underprivileged. He also welcomed dignitaries, faculty, parents, and students, expressing gratitude to parents and extending best wishes to the graduating batch.

Inspiring message to graduates

In his convocation address, Chief Guest Rev. Dr. Victor Lobo emphasised that “education is life, life in fullness,” encouraging graduates to embrace humility, compassion, and service in their professional journey. He described nursing as a noble vocation dedicated to caring for the poor and suffering.

Rev. Fr. Jesudoss Rajamanickam also addressed the gathering, congratulating the graduates and wishing them success in their future endeavours.

Emphasis on alumni and professional values

Rev. Fr. Tony A.J., Associate Director (Finance), delivered a presentation titled “Alumni: The Guardian of Our Legacy,” highlighting the transformation of students during their academic journey and their lifelong connection with the institution.

Prof. Sara Ommen, Chief of Nursing Services, administered the Nightingale Oath, symbolising the graduates’ commitment to ethical and compassionate healthcare practices.

Academic achievements highlighted

Dr. Bindhu Mathew, Principal, presented the annual report, outlining the institution’s achievements over the past year. The college secured 43 RGUHS ranks, including 18 B.Sc and 25 P.B.BSc ranks within the top 10, and 11 ranks within the top 5.

The report also highlighted faculty research contributions and successful student outreach initiatives, reinforcing the institution’s commitment to academic and community excellence.

Cultural celebration and conclusion

The programme concluded with vibrant cultural performances by students, adding a celebratory touch to the occasion. The event ended with the rendition of the National Anthem.
